Grand Ridge Procedures

Drop Off and Pick up

Safety is a priority at Grand Ridge. Here are ways that you can assist us in keeping students safe, and be courteous to other Grand Ridge parents: Drop-off and Pick-up

  • When dropping off, or picking up students at Grand Ridge please use the drop-off zone near the sidewalk in the back of the school only. Dropping off students in the bus zone is not safe.
  • Please remember that this drop off zone is to load and unload students only. Please do not leave your car parked here, and walk to meet your child.
  • Whenever possible, please pull as far forward as you can in this drop off zone. This allows more cars to pull into the area so more students can safely enter/exit their cars.
Morning Arrival/Crossing
  • While in the parking lot is important that people use the crosswalk. This models grand behavior for students, and keeps all members of our community safe.
  • Supervision before school begins at 8:55 A.M.(Wed 8:40 A.M) Staff will not begin monitoring the crosswalk or bus area prior to that time. It is very important for the safety of students that arrival is not earlier than this time.
  • Traffic is very busy here at Grand Ridge. To help with crossings, and traffic, we are asking that you take a right turn only at both pick-up and drop-off time.
Cell Phones
  • We know that cell phones are a necessity. However, we are asking that when you are using a cell phone in our parking lot you do so from a stopped position, in a parking spot. By doing so our students and their safety will have your full attention.
Before School Procedures
  • Each day the first bell rings ten minutes prior to the final bell, signaling the start of learning time. This is 9:05 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and on Wednesdays at 8:50 A.M. At that time the building wing doors will be unlocked and students may enter the building. Students do not need to wait in a line for their teacher to bring them inside.  If for some reason the teacher is not in the classroom at the first bell students should line up outside the classroom in the hallway until the teacher arrives. For the safety of students all wings doors will be locked after the final bell at either 9:00 (Wednesday), or 9:15 (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday).
Late Arrival
  • If students arrive after the final morning bell they should come to the office to get a late slip, and be signed in by a parent.
After School Procedures
  • At the end of the day teachers will be exiting the same wing doors with their students. Children will be walked to the bus drop off area.
  •  Daycare buses will pick-up students in designated spots, and those children may wait together in the undercover area until they arrive.
  • If you are picking up your child please be sure you notify your child's teacher as to these arrangements. Determining a designated area, either outside of the wing doors or in the back of the school near the pick-up zone, to meet them is helpful. This also assists the teacher to be sure your child gets to the correct location to meet you.

Emergency Dismissal Procedures
  • Directions for Parents

Only Parents/Guardians or the Authorized Adult indicated on the Emergency Demographic Form will be allowed to take the student out of school.

In the case of emergency dismissal, the following steps will be followed by parents when they come to school to pick-up their child(ren):

  • REMAIN CALM AND BE PATIENT.
  • Be sure your car is parked in a stall or on the street. It is against the law to park in the fire lane or in any area that could prevent emergency vehicles and/or school buses from coming into, or going out of, the parking lot.
  • Keep doorways clear at all times.
  • All parents are to report to the courtyard. Look for the “Student Check-Out” sign.
  • At the “EMERGENCY RELEASE TICKET” pick up a ticket for each child you wish to sign out. For each child fill out the child’s name, room number/teacher’s name, date, and time.
  • In the courtyard you will see alphabet letters (A-I, J-Q, R-Z). Go to the sign with the first initial of your child’s last name, bringing the Emergency Release Ticket.
  • At this table, staff members will check the student’s Emergency Demographics Information Form for authorization to release the child to an adult.
  • Parent/Guardian or Authorized Adult will need to show PICTURE IDENTIFICATION at this time.
  • Upon satisfactory completion of Steps 7 and 8, a staff member will sign the Emergency Release Ticket.
  • Take the ticket to the wing door/s where your child’s room is located..
  • Runners will collect the ticket from you at that time, get your child, and release them to you at the wing door.
  • You may then leave the school.

PLEASE NOTE:

NO STAFF MEMBER WILL RELEASE A CHILD TO YOU WITHOUT BEING GIVEN A SIGNED EMERGENCY RELEASE TICKET
